Quick Recommendation – The Weirkey Chronicles (Books 1-7 Currently Free on Kindle)

Hey, everyone!

Still working hard on AA5. I’m currently at about 70% on my self-editing pass and expect to send it to beta readers within the next few days.

In the meantime, another quick recommendation for you. The latest book by Sarah Lin, one of my absolute favorite authors, just launched.

The Weirkey Chronicles follows Theo, a man from our world who is transported to the Nine Realms. And, to avoid spoiling the intro to the first book, let’s just say things don’t follow the standard “transported to another world” formula.

Theo ends up as a bitter older man, a rarity in the genre, gradually learning to reconnect with people around him and exploring the fantastical Nine Worlds.

This series has some phenomenal character work and world building, as well as one of my personal favorite magic systems in all of fiction — Soulhomes. Soulhomes are a unique take on the Chinese xianixa/cultivation subgenre, adding a layer of physicality to the concept of cultivation. As a person connects with their inner self, they form their Soulhome, a personal residence inside their soul that reflects their goals, accomplishments, and identity. To do this, they must spiritually build this home brick-by-brick, creating rooms and absorbing materials, with their selected materials, configuration of rooms, and overall style of home determining their magical powers. A knightly warrior might build a Soulhome that resembles a castle, a wandering martial artist might build a dojo, and a researcher might build a laboratory — each with rooms dedicated to different purposes, granting different benefits.

I consider this to be one of the clearest and coolest magic systems I’ve ever seen and I’d strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys detailed magical progression.

The latest book, Deathseed, gets deeply into the past and present of some the characters we encountered way back in Book 1 — but I don’t want to say too much here and spoil things for new fans. So, here’s a simple link to the latest:

And perhaps more importantly, here’s a link to Book 1, which is presently free on Kindle in the US (as are books 2-7):

Aren’t these covers great?

I hope everyone enjoys the books. Take care!

  1. Thank you for the recommendation. I Started book one and it is a great dead, really enjoing it so far.

The description is a bit misleading, though. From “Transportes into the nine realms” (and guy in hood) I expected norse Mythology 😂
