Updates and Recommendations

Hey, everyone!

Just a super quick update post today.

Arcane Ascension 5’s first draft has been done for about a week. I’m mid-way through self-edits, which is about where I expected to be this week, and I plan to send it to beta readers about a week from now.

Aside from that, some quick recommendations!

Will Wight has just released his latest book in The Last Horizon, his latest series. Many of you are probably already familiar with his books, since he’s the author of Cradle, the single most successful series in my subgenre. His latest series is very different in flavor — it’s a science fantasy/space opera with a crew of cast members inspired by a wide variety of different mediums. Each book focuses primarily on one crew member — in this case, my personal favorite, Raion Raithe, the Knight.

If you’re new to the series and thinking, “Is that a Power Ranger and a Megazord in the background?” The answer is basically yes, and it’s absolutely beautiful.

If you’re looking for something a little closer to my own books in style, or, amusingly, something more like Cradle, there’s also a new release in Samuel Hinton’s Manifestations series today! I gave a glowing review of the first book, Soul Relic, some time ago, and I’ve continued to love the series since. It’s a rare case of a martial arts/cultivation style story with a female protagonist and she continues to be awesome. (The picture for this one looks like it’s her brother, which is also exciting — he’s a tinker style character, more ala Corin.)

I can’t speak to the plot of this one, as I just picked it up last night, but I’m excited to hopefully see the characters reunite with some Book 1-2 mentor figures — this series does great mentors.

Hope everyone is having a good month so far. I’m excited to be making solid progress on AA5 and also have some new reading material!
