Just a mini-update.
The sequel to Sufficiently Advanced Magic is now up to 115,000 words. My current target for finishing it is about 165,000 words (roughly the same length as Stealing Sorcery, and a good bit shorter than Sufficiently Advanced Magic).
No guarantees it’ll actually end up at that length – there’s still a lot of room for variation depending on how the “endgame” portion of the story goes. I’m just ramping up to that, and I’m excited about it.
I think the story is shaping up pretty well so far. There’s a lot more of a focus on character interaction than in the previous book, which I think some readers will enjoy more than others.

I tend to prefer longer books, too, but I want to make sure that it’s just whatever the right length feels like for telling this particular story. That’ll probably be in that range, but it could end up being longer or shorter – we’ll have to see.

I hope we get to learn more about attunements and how magic works. The chapters featuring Corin’s experimentations with enchanting were some of my favorite parts.

There will definitely be more scenes exploring how magic works. I consider that a core part of the story and that won’t be changing.

It usually takes a few additional months for the audio book to be produced, since they need to reserve a spot with the narrator and the narrator can’t even begin recording until a fully edited copy is completed.

I hope it is a different narrator though. I found it hard to distinguish between some characters voices especially female characters
With the amount time that passed since the last book, can you put a synopsis in the front on the story so far?
I’ve been debating this. There was some discussion about the idea on Reddit’s /r/fantasy a while back and opinions were mixed. I’m leaning toward doing it, but I’m not 100% sure yet.
A synopsis is one of those items that, for me, gets an author an extra star.
Frankly, I’d love to see that debate. I can’t imagine what it would detract from a book. It only enhances it, but like everything in life there’s always a different opinion.
I took a quick look for the reddit discussion, but there are so many posts with words like “recap” and “summary” I couldn’t find the one I was thinking of.
I think that the main complaint was probably that it “inflates” the apparent length of the book with content that isn’t part of the story.
Either way, I’m leaning toward doing a summary as you asked for. Not 100% sure yet, but I’m definitely thinking about it.
I’M SO EXCITED. I’ve read a good 12 or so books so far this year, including Kingkiller chronicles and Mistborn series, and Sufficiently Advanced Magic is easily in my top 3.

I have to agree with Hannah, there are quite a few big names that I really enjoy but aside from Oathbringer by Mr. Sanderson and Blackflame by Will Wight, your book is one of my most anticipated reads of the year!

Have to agree, you’re nipping at Sanderson’s heels. Sufficiently Advanced Magic was fantastic. I’m really looking forward to the next book. You should be on the back side of the Black Friday / Christmas Crunch release schedule. That means free time. No wasting that on friends and family and relationships. Get writing!

It’s definitely not going to be short. I’m already at about 60% of the length of Sufficiently Advanced Magic and it still has a ways to go. I think it’ll probably end up being just a little shorter, but it’s honestly still too soon for me to know for sure.
I listen to audiobooks on the way to work and stumbled upon the Broken Mirrors series due to liking Nick Podehl as a narrator. By the time I got around to SAM I was marathoning it while sitting at my desk over the weekend.
I didn’t know the two series were openly connected when I started SAM. I loved that there was just enough there for me to draw the conclusion that they were in the same universe but be just obscure enough that I wasn’t 100% certain.
Anyway, can’t wait for the next books in each series. Hope you can schedule Nick sooner rather than later.
